For the past 20 years, I’ve steered clear of New Year’s resolutions. The idea of waiting for a special date – be it Monday, the first of the month, or the new year – to start or restart something never quite resonated with me. Life, after all, doesn’t adhere to our calendars.
Day 1 of a New Phase
This New Year’s Eve morning marked something significant, though. Not because it’s a traditional time for change, but because my 2.5km walk felt like the first step into a new phase of life. This phase is about balance – a concept I’ve admittedly struggled with in the past.
A History of Focused Phases
In retrospect, my life has been a series of intensely focused phases. There was a time when web development consumed me, then a period of deep spiritual and personal exploration followed. And let’s not forget the fitness and running chapter. Each phase, while fulfilling, often overshadowed the others, creating an imbalance.
The Four Pillars: Health, Wealth, Self, and Social
This year, I’m embracing a holistic approach based on four pillars: health, wealth, self, and social. These pillars form the backbone of the challenge I am partaking in, promising a more rounded and fulfilling life.
- Health: I’m reigniting my passion for fitness, starting with consistent walks and gradually picking up running again. Nutrition will also play a key role. My ambitious goal? Log at least 2024km in 2024.
- Wealth: My focus here extends to nurturing The Bizzy Runner (TBR), Avallach Technology, and enhancing my online business acumen. It’s about growing sustainably while enjoying the journey.
- Self: Achieving a work-life balance is pivotal. I’m carving out time for practices like meditation and mindfulness – the essentials for inner peace and satisfaction.
- Social: Reconnecting with the running community through parkrun, and maintaining regular touch with family and friends, especially those in the UK, is crucial for a balanced social life.
A Statement of Intent for 2024
This isn’t just a resolution; it’s a statement of intent and determination. 2024 is not just another year; it’s a canvas for a more balanced, fulfilling life. This is my commitment to not just excel in one area but to thrive in all. Here’s to making 2024 a year to remember – for all the right reasons!
